The Merlin's Cure Spa Treatment, Danai Spa Review

In the month of March and April, Danai Spa has its promotion on Merlin's Cure Spa Treatment where they use natural herbals and remedies as a moment of 'escape' to rest, reflect and energize. It was inspired by The Golden Age of Celtic Chivalry; where the renowned wizard Merlin from King Arthur's court was wise in his way about herbal and natural remedies.

Danai is a place for a different culture and tradition to inspire your healing nature. It was a pleasure to be invited by Danai Spa for an escapade into these Celtic stories with its Celtic treatments of tinctures, elixirs, poultices and salves soothe your frazzled soul.

Danai Spa at Eastin Hotel Penang is located at the 2nd Floor of the Hotel. Parking is available inside the hotel parking bay.

Upon arrival, you will be greeted by the friendly staffs at the counter and be served with a cup of hot ginger tea at the lounged area. A therapist will be assigned to each individual customer.

Guests will be required to change into the slipper provided and proceed to foot wash area. The spa session starts off with foot reflexology, where they will cleanse and massage your feet and leg. You will feel ticklish for the first time.

The opposite of the room is the area for manicure and pedicure. Besides this, Danai also provide facial services apart from spas and treatments.

There are four single rooms and three couple rooms and only two rooms has an attached bathrooms in it. If you would like to have some privacy, you may go for the single room.

Each massage room has a name for it. We were guided into a couple room (Passion) with an attached bathroom and jacuzzi. Indeed with the name given to its room; it was lighted dimly with aroma candles and few orchids petal on the jacuzzi tub around the sink area. You can smell the relaxing aromatherapy around the room together with a gentle music been played at the back ground.

Guest will begin with the massage session. For this treatment is emphasis on the Hot Celtic River Stones. The Celtic river stones will be steeped in the boiling mineral spring water, then placed on to various sites of the body to heat-release muscle tension, soothe and relieve pain.

Beewax oil will be used to massage on your body by the therapist follow by light stroke of massage using the smaller heated stone. The massage technique is excellent with moderate strength. You may request for light, moderate or strong strength in your massage depending on your personal preference.

After the massage, is the body scrub session. Guest will be given the Celtic Sea Salt Scrub throughout the whole body. Followed by the Herbal Salve Wrap that is a skin detoxifying herbal salve; applied to the body and been wrapped up for 10 minutes before been scrubbed off to reveal baby soft and glowing skin.

To end the spa session, guest will have a light massage on the face and scalp before heading to the bathroom for a good warm bath.

Overall, the whole spa session is very relaxing and rejuvenating. You will leave home feeling refresh and smells good on your smooth skin. It’s a great experience that would take you away for a moment from your busy daily life and it’s worth it to pay for such experience and services provided.

Weissbräu German Bistro & Bar Invited Review

Weissbräu German Bistro & Bar situated at North Block of newly opened Straits Quay, Penang, had just started its operation for 3 months. The branch which is in Kuala Lumpur is situated at ‘Connection’ level of Pavilion.

The word Weissbräu is a combination of German word ‘Weiss’ for white and bräu for brew, which refers to as white brew or white beer (Most popular and common beer in Germany). Weissbräu Penang German Bistro & Bar seats around 70 people indoor and 100 people at Alfresco. Reservation is recommended especially for dinner hour and weekends.

This restaurant was designed in a simple yet modern style with some wooden seating areas and bar concept. This creates the coziness of the ambiance.

This restaurant serves wide selection of German cuisine like pork specialties, sausages, pizzas, roesti, and imported draught & bottled beers.

Last weekend, we were invited to Weissbräu German Bistro & Bar for food tasting together with the other food bloggers. Appointing Wayne Yoon to head this outlet, we were honored to savor their newly German culinary creations.

Here are some of the culinary creations which we have tasted.

From the range of Hearty meal, Crispy German Pork Knuckle RM48++
with side dish of Roesti and Sauerkraut

According to Wayne, the knuckle will be pickled for 2 or 3 days and this consequently creating minimal amount of fats in the pork. It is cooked with beef stock and red wine sauce. The tenderness of the texture of the meat is nice when it is eaten together with the Sauerkraut (Shredded Cabbage in white wine vinegar) which consists of mild acidity. Apart from this, the Roesti which was served together with this meal tasted quite nice to our palates. The Roesti is actually a Swiss German part signature which is made from shredded Potato strips pan-fried in clarified butter.

As Germany borders countries are France, Switzerland and Belgium, some of its influences are seen in the menu too, such as Pissaladière the popular pizza from Southern France. It is a thin crust dough topped with sour cream, roasted onion, anchovies and olives, quickly baked in oven.

The specialty of this Roesti is that you can add the toppings that you like at different prices. The basic roesti starts at Rm 13.80++

Crisp head lettuce comprises of their homemade mayonnaise, tomatoes, and croutons topped with parmesan cheese. Salad may be add on with Light Curried Chicken @ RM 6.00++ or Smoked Salmon @ RM8++.

A lightly smoked giant sausage made from selected cuts of beef and pork, mixed with our own special blend of spices chili.

The sausages were meaty, juicy, and very flavorful. As for the Garlic Mashed potato, it was quite rich and creamy with a fluffy texture.

Customers are free to choose either 1 side dish or 1 vegetable or even a choice of two side dish or vegetables on top of the main course/hearty meal.

• Side Dish: Potato Salad, Garlic Mash, Spaetzi or Roesti
• Vegetable: Buttered Market Vegetables or Sauerkraut

According to Wayne, Weissbräu German Bistro & Bar will launch the remodeled menu soon and we were lucky to savor the newly created dishes. Price are still unavailable at the moment.

Homemade Sausages
(Chili pork sausage, Herbs Pork Sausage and Garlic Peppercorn Pork Sausage)

The Homemade herb(Oregano, Rosemary, Thyme and Basil) sausages are smoked for 4 hours before they are ready to be served. They are new items and are currently off the ala-carte menu but is available upon request.

For desserts, we are served with 2 types of desserts, Apple Strudel and Chocolate Mousse. The homemade fillings of the Apple Strudder perfectly suit our taste buds for it is not too sweet and a bit sourly. It is served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Whereas, Chocolate Mousse is rich with the chocolate flavor that melts in the mouth.

Chūhai, the Japanese cocktail which is offered in Miraku allows you to choose from two types of Shochu which is the Mugi(wheat sochu)-150ml or Imo(potato sochu)-300ml. For mixers, there are tonic, carbonated drinks or fruit juice. It can also be served with oolong tea.

Food Promotions pick of the day would be Hotate Chuka Chinmi, the cold appetizer which is very appetizing once you start eating and Hotate Kushi Yaki which is full of Hotate original flavor.
